The verification of correspondence between the media and the public agenda
Horová, Terezie ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Lupač, Petr (referee)
This thesis deals with the subject of correspondence between the media and the public agenda. It is based on previous studies , where the relationship between the media and the public agenda confirmed sociologist McCombs (Dearing a Rogers 1996: 6). On the sources it is trying to establish a linkage on the specific topic of the church restitutions , which discusses in particular the development and opinions both in the media and in the public agenda. In contrast to previous pieces I try to penetrate deeper into the linkage between media and public agenda and investigate their mutual correspondence. For analyzing the media agenda, the author uses the method of content analysis of newspaper articles in selected printed media. Then the result is compared to a secondary analysis of survey data Naše společnost, that realized the Center for Public Opinion Research, which represents the public agenda in this case. The main results of the analysis is verified that the media and the public agenda influenced each toher in the particular case, the issue of restitution of churches . First, it is managed to identify similarities between the frequency of occurrences of each media reports and public interest in the topic. It is also discovered a connection between opinions on the topic in the media and public...

Pavlis, Daniel ; Končelík, Jakub (advisor) ; Suk, Pavel (referee)
My rigorous thesis describes the system of press regulation in Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia by means of two-level comparison. The first one is a comparison of official orders and directives with real content of legal Czech protectoral press (it means "Národní politika" for this research) during two important eras: after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Hitler. The second one is a comparison of these two media agendas and their synthesis. I wanted to demonstrate the process of press regulation through concrete agendas that are similar in many points: both events are the same (assassinations); both men were the highest men in nazi hierarchy (Hitler was number one in the Third Reich, Heydrich was number three); media were supposed to make some reaction in the direct of recipients because of the propaganda power. But there were some differences as well: the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich causes his death and it was made by Czech emigrants; Adolf Hitler survived almost unhurt and the following revolt and plot (part of the operation Valkyrie) was planned by German high officers in Germany. One of the results of this rigorous thesis is the statement that it was important for Czech press institutions if the event is a part of protectoral life and environment or if it takes place elsewhere...

Nečas, Vlastimil ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Just, Petr (referee) ; Šubrt, Jiří (referee)
This dissertation thesis follows from a wide stream of considerations of the relationship between the mass media, public and politics; in particular detail, it deals with a specific concept which attempts to grasp, model and empirically examine this relationship. The main goals of the thesis can be in short divided into two interrelated areas. The first aim is to introduce the concept of agenda setting to the Czech academic environment, with its theoretical, terminological and research frame for an analysis of relationships between the mass media content, dynamics of public opinion, and the political sphere. The second aim is to analyze how agenda setting processes are theoretically grounded and studied in the Czech social studies. The theoretical part of the thesis is structured according to two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic. In the diachronic perspective, I try to grasp the social context and historical origins of agenda-setting as a concept, its development, main trends, and developmental lines. This way, I move forward to the synchronic perspective and describe academic grounding of agenda-setting; I give a detailed analysis of the present level of the agenda-setting research and the main research areas through available classifications. The second fundamental area of the dissertation consists...

Jirků, Jan ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
The rigorous thesis named Agenda-setting at the Local Level deals with concept agenda-setting and applies it on the research made in local conditions. It is checked to what degree the process of agenda-setting is functional on this level and how in the concrete it expresses oneself. At the same time follows up-to-date trend of research in agenda-setting being characterized by displacement from macro structural level to micro structural level and by replacement of general hypotheses to concrete hypotheses. The rigorous thesis describes relationships among citizens of Nové Město na Moravě including integrated villages as representatives of local public agenda, toll-free fortnightly Novoměstsko that belongs to local media agenda and municipal politicians as representatives of local political agenda. It is based on groundbreaking studies that checked the validity of agenda-setting on the macro structural level and it is used quantitative and qualitative methods that propped oneself upon that studies. The way of fortnightly publishing and the town government were changed in the period between the first and the second research. Therefore, the rigorous thesis also analyzes impact of these changes on the process of agenda-setting.

Honc, Martin ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
The present thesis investigates the impact of the global strike for climate organised by the Fridays for Future movement and led by Greta Thunberg on the approach of selected Czech media toward their coverage of environmental topics. Vicenová, Natalie ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The analysis "Framing of immigration in Czech daily newspapers" reveals how Czech daily newspapers framed so called migration crisis in Europe in 2015 when the immi- gration issue belonged to the most important issues in both Czech and foreign news media. This thesis draws from theoretical and analytical concept of media framing and concept of Agenda setting which deal with aspects used by media in describing reality, and their media effects on public opinion. Quantitative content analysis of five national daily newspapers revealed that immi- gration issue was represented mainly as international political problem, followed by security threat as the second most frequent topic of news on immigration. In almost all news articles the immigration issue was framed as problem, whereas cause frame and solution frame were present in approximately a quarter of news on immigration. Czech and foreign politicians and government sources were the most cited or para- phrased actors in Czech daily newspapers. On the other hand, refugees, immigrants and ci- tizens were less frequent speakers, and experts rarely commented on the issue of immigration in Czech daily newspapers.
